Burn is operated by The Pamela M. Johnson Companies LLC, doing business as Eat the Weight Off. This policy explains what we collect when you use burn.eattheweightoff.com, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read, not to be impressive.
What we collect
Account and membership information. Your name, email address, username, and password. Your membership level, start date, renewal date, and payment history.
Payment information. Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card number never reaches this website and we never see or store it. We keep a record of what you were charged and when, and the last four digits of the card so you can recognise it.
Health information you give us. The Health Readiness Screening asks about your health — conditions, medications including GLP-1 medications, whether you have had surgery, and any limitations. Other forms may ask about your goals, your starting point, and your progress. You choose what to tell us.
Community content. Your profile, photos, posts, comments, group memberships, and messages in the Burn community. Anything you post in a group can be seen by other members of that group.
Things you send us. Support requests, challenge signups, progress check-ins, cancellation surveys, and stories you choose to share.
Information collected automatically. Your IP address, browser and device type, pages you visit, and how long you stay. We use Google Analytics and Jetpack for this.
Health information, specifically
This matters enough to say on its own.
The health information you give us is used for one thing: to help you start in a place that is right for your body, and to keep you from being pushed somewhere you should not go yet. It is not sold. It is not shared with advertisers. It is not used to set your price.
Burn is not a healthcare provider and this is not medical care, so HIPAA does not apply to what you tell us here. That is exactly why we are telling you plainly what we do with it. If you would rather not share something, leave it out — but understand that the screening exists to keep you safe, and answering it honestly is in your interest.
Why we use your information
- To give you the membership you paid for and to keep your account working
- To take payment and send receipts and renewal notices
- To point you toward the right starting place, based on what you told us in the screening
- To run the community and enforce the guidelines
- To answer you when you contact us
- To send you emails about your membership, and — if you asked for them — about new workouts and challenges. Every one of those has an unsubscribe link
- To understand which parts of the site people actually use, so we build more of what helps
Who we share it with
We share information only with the services that make the site run:
- Stripe — payment processing
- Bluehost — hosting
- Google Analytics and Jetpack — site statistics
- Our email service — sending account and membership email
- Wordfence — security and blocking malicious traffic
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect someone from harm.
We do not sell your personal information
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, as those terms are defined under California law. We have never done this and we have no plans to.
Cookies
We use cookies to keep you logged in, remember your preferences, and measure how the site is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings, and through the cookie notice on this site. Turning off essential cookies will stop the site from working properly.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information for as long as you are a member, and for a period afterwards in case you come back or we need it for tax and accounting records. You can ask us to delete it sooner — see below.
Keeping it safe
We use security software, access controls, and regular backups, and payment card data is handled entirely by Stripe rather than by us. No website can promise perfect security, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. If there is ever a breach affecting your information, we will tell you.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- Tell you what information we hold about you
- Correct anything that is wrong
- Delete your information
- Send you a copy of it
- Stop sending you marketing email
If you live in California, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and why, the right to delete it, the right to correct it, the right to opt out of sale or sharing — we do neither — and the right not to be treated differently for exercising any of these rights.
To make a request, email burn@eattheweightoff.com. We will need to confirm it is really you before we act on it.
Children
Burn is for adults. It is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and if the change is significant we will tell members directly rather than quietly editing the page.
